The Morton County Ag Day is scheduled for Thursday, March 15 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Open Road Honda on the Strip in Mandan.
Ag Day is a free and fun-filled educational event that demonstrates how agriculture impacts everyday life. There will be numerous booths with information about the industry. Participants will have the chance to take home handouts, view, touch, taste and smell agriculture. The Leadership Bismarck-Mandan class participated in an Arts & Leisure Issue Day on Nov. 30. The students took a tour of the Bismarck Aquatic Center, which off ers all types of swimming and exercise opportunities to Bismarck-Mandan residents.
The class learned about the extent of damage both Mandan and Bismarck Parks & Recreation Departments received as a result of flooding; Bismarck alone has submitted more than $800,000 in requests to FEMA. Mandan’s USDA Ag and environmental research facility opens their doors to the public on July 21for their annual Friends & Neighbors Day.
USDA Staff will provide historical tours of the 99-year-old research facility from 1:30 to 6 p.m. The 15-acre, park-like campus will host presentations throughout the day on cooking with herbs, ornamental grasses, new tree releases for North Dakota, sun and skin care, severe weather, energy needs and conservation, “Its A Bug’s Life” and the new NDSU Biomass Testing Laboratory being built in Mandan. The 15th annual Charity Fun Day Bowling Tournament at Midway Lanes in Mandan resulted in great donations for two local charities.
Sponsored by Terry Barnes Auto Glass, Midway Lanes and KFYR Radio, the charity event on Nov. 27, 2010 produced $4,850 for Pam’s House, the shelter operated by the Abused Adult Resource Center (AARC), and the Jesse Hillard Scholarship Fund. Checks for $2,425 each were presented Feb. 17 to Bob Hillard, representing the Hillard Scholarship Fund and Michelle Erickson, representing the AARC. The Leadership Bismarck-Mandan class participated in the Faith, Ethics & Values Issue Day on Feb. 16 at New Song Community Church in Bismarck.
The class completed a self-evaluation to reveal how they rank their important things in life; they also participated in a thought provoking, simulated ethics and values challenge. Through educational exercises, they learned that they can make a difference interacting with family, community or co-workers and as leaders others look to them for direction.

Hundreds of students walked the aisles of Open Road Honda on March 17. Instead of shopping power sports products, the students took in a variety of barnyard animals and agriculture displays. The Honda dealership, which is located on The Strip in Mandan, hosted the annual Morton County Ag Day event.
Students from dozens of area schools were bussed to Open Road Honda to experience local agriculture and the public was invited to attend as well. Demonstrations, including sheep shearing, and hands-on displays allowed students to satisfy several senses.
