The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee (MAC) will sponsor its first Military Education Fair, to be held at the North Dakota National Guard Raymond J. Bohn Armory on Saturday, Dec 3, 2011. The free event is open to all active duty and reserve personnel, family members, and veterans.

Connecting business and education is key to a community’s success and educating the community’s youth to be tomorrow’s business leaders helps to ensure its vitality. The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce plays an active role in facilitating relationships between business and education, and promotes and coordinates many business education programs throughout Bismarck-Mandan.

The North Dakota Education Standards and Practices Board (ESPB) has granted approval for United Tribes Technical College to off er its own baccalaureate program in elementary education. The ESPB is the agency that approves teacher education programs in the state.
The college was informed March 10 that the board granted official approval and authorization for United Tribes to begin admitting students to a baccalaureate program in elementary education. The majority of the college’s academic, career and technical programs result in two-year, associate degrees or certificates of completion.

The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber’s Business Education Partnership Committee (BEPC) is currently seeking new members. The BEPC serves as an umbrella committee for several subcommittees dedicated to connecting the business and education communities. The committee meets at noon on the second Thursday of each month at the Chamber.

Another common concern for parents during the back-to-school bustle, especially in Bismarck, is transportation to and from school.
“Parents have trouble finding providers that off er transportation and care during the out-of-school days like holidays,” said Linda Reinicke, director of Child Care Resource & Referral.
Currently, Bismarck-city, school busing is operated privately. Many parents feel the service is pricey and privy only to those that sign up fast before spaces fill.
