The Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network is requesting nominations for the annual Top 10 Young Professional Workplaces Award. The award recognizes local businesses committed to recruiting and retaining talented young professionals. Eligible businesses, those employing young professionals under the age of 40, are measured on criteria related to the active development and execution of strategies advancing employment of young professionals in the workplace and quality and type of benefits offered.

In 2007, the Young Professionals Network organized the Top 10 Places to Work in Bismarck-Mandan competition. The competition created a buzz amongst regional young professionals and quickly became a coveted honorary award. The 2009 Top 10 Places to Work competition was a tough one with more than 30 nominations.
The Top 10 Places to Work competition honors employers who exemplify what it takes to attract and retain young professionals in today’s economy.

The Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network hosts its 2nd Annual Chill-N-Bowl on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Midway Lanes. Registration begins at 5 p.m. with bowling to follow at 5:30 p.m. Two games will be bowled plus a chili-cook-off . Local businesses sponsor the Chill-N-Bowl, and the entry fee is $60 for a 4-person team. Each team is asked to bring a crock pot of their best chili for the cook-off . Close your eyes and name nine of your closest friends and family members. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Now imagine three of those nine, and yourself being involved in alcohol related crash. It may seem unlikely, but according to alcohol alert statistics, it’s not.

Thursday, Aug. 6 was a day to feel youthful again as the Young Professionals Network hosted Chamber members for our monthly mixer. Roughly 120 members got to mix with the YPs despite the fact that some “aged out” of the group.
Utilizing their true networking talent, the YPs successfully solicted McQuade Distributing to serve their tried-andtrue and new drinks. Ruby Tuesday served ribs that were raved about.

Cincinnati
The Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network (YPN) will expand their horizons at the 2009 National Next Leaders Summit in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The purpose of this summit is to meet other young professionals (YPs) from across the country and share ideas and stories. The YPN was selected to present on their program entitled “Stepping Up”.
This program was created by YPN member, Angil Wanner, and it places YPs in high school classrooms to share their experiences with students.

This is the ffth year that the YPN has been up and running and 2009 has proved to be a great year. A recent Get Connected Get Together at Captain Freddie’s hosted around 30 YPs. Attendees learned how the new bar and grill, located on the Missouri River in Ricker’s Marina, got started and enjoyed a sample of their cuisine.
